The Metro brand was launched in March 1999 as a London only free newspaper.
It was designed to be a concise read containing bite-sized national and international news, wrapped around local information, entertainment previews, weather and travel.
It now distributes 1.3 million copies in 33 urban areas across the UK every weekday morning and has over 3.5 million loyal, daily readers. The Metro brand is synonomous with city living and an integral part of urban life.
Since its launch the brand has grown to include Metro.co.uk that has 1.25 million monthly unique users. Whilst related to the paper, the site stands alone with unique content aimed at City Clicker behaviour and lifestyles. From creating social currency with our news, sport, showbiz and weird content, to planning an offline life through our going out section Metrolife. There's loads of relevant unique content and more to come with a site
re-design expected later this year.
